I Giovani per un Mondo Unito della Polonia ci raccontano il loro “frammento di fraternità” costruito con i senzatetto che abitano vicino alla stazione di Varsavia

"Già l’anno scorso ci siamo impegnati all’azione “San Nicola diversamente” con la pastorale giovanile Studnia. Il nostro ruolo lo scorso anno è stato limitato a distribuire nel giorno di 6 dicembre i pacchetti già finiti. È stata un’esperienza forte e profonda.

Quest’anno abbiamo voluto ancor di più ripetere quest’esperienza, questa volta impegnandoci noi in prima fila ad organizzare tutto. Ci siamo messi a lavorare... per prima condividendo la nostra idea con tutta la comunità locale di Varsavia. Nell’e-mail mandato a tutti abbiamo proposto vari modi di partecipazione nel nostro progetto. Ad esempio: attraverso un sostegno spirituale - preghiere in questa intenzione, preparando insieme i biscotti, i panini, facendoci arrivare pacchetti già pronti da distribuire il 6 dicembre.
Sin dall’inizio abbiamo sentito la forza della preghiera, ed anche il sostegno finanziario - abbiamo raccolto circa 600 PLN (150 euro). Si avvicinava il giorno della distribuzione dei pachi ma per vari motivi il numero dei giovani diminuiva sempre di più... ma non perdevamo la pace dentro di noi. Una di noi ha raccontato del nostro progetto ad una collega di lavoro dicendo cosa avremmo messo nei pacchetti e che abbiamo ancora i soldi e ci chiedevamo che altro possiamo mettere nel pacchetto... All’improvviso ha tirato fuori 50 PLN con tanta gioia di poter partecipare in questo progetto ha chiesto di informarla sempre sulle azioni simili. Poi ha suggerito: forse potreste mettere anche i guanti? Ottima idea!

“Aren’t you afraid, Donata?” I was asked this question several times before I left for the Middle East. But being the person I am, I had to see it for myself. This past summer, I was given the unique opportunity to participate in a course titled “Coexistence in the Middle East” through the Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Along with almost 50 students from every continent, I had a glimpse of the challenges and complexities of coexistence in Israel, a land shared and claimed by both Israelis and Palestinians, where Jews, Christians and Muslims have their common roots.
I had no idea what I was getting myself into. First of all, I was a science major, and suddenly I was studying about the confluence of Western and Middle-Eastern civilizations. Until then, Israel’s international relations with Arab and Muslim countries and Palestinian-Israeli relations had only been titles to me. I had never travelled to the Middle East.
On the first day, we walked for what seemed to be hours in the scorching heat to study Jerusalem’s historical centre, home to all three monotheistic religions. I was shocked to see the neighbourhoods divided by religion. Nonetheless, the words of John Paul II kept ringing in my ears, “If we can find peace in the Middle East, there will be peace in the whole world.”

Cuba: we are with you!

Santiago, Cuba. “The destruction caused by hurricane Sandy has caused much damage especially in Santiago. Reconstruction has not yet begun because the Government had also been taken by surprise. Indeed because of the geographical landscape of Santiago which is encircled by mountains, hurricanes usually arrive from the sea and since they are blocked by the natural barrier formed by the mountain range, generally they move away without leaving any damage. In this case the hurricane managed to enter and remain within the area for three hours, spinning like a kitchen blending machine. The damages suffered by sixteen families, with whom we are in contact with, amounts to 42,000 Euros. The money gathered through the United World Project, though insufficient, has already been handed to them. The time needed for reconstruction is difficult to estimate as it depends on the availability of the construction materials which is very scarce due to the embargo that afflicts the island since many years. The supply of such materials is usually very limited and random availability, thus slowing down any construction work. Presently, only limited quantities of cement, wood and reinforcement steel are available. When the required materials do reach the island, it is necessary to have the necessary funds on hand in order to purchase them before the supply runs out. We are grateful for the assistance we have already received as we continue to hope in everyone’s future support.”

UNITED WORLD PROJECT

The world around us urgently needs a SOUL: LOVE.
«We are living in a “historic turning-point.” We feel the birth pangs of a new world struggling to be born. But its birth requires a soul: love.
… In my contacts with individuals and groups of every religion, race and culture, I have discovered that love is imprinted in the DNA of every human being. It is the most secure, fruitful and powerful force that can unite the entire human family. But it demands a total paradigm shift in our hearts, mentality and choices.
The need to reinterpret the meaning of reciprocity, a key­stone in international relations, is already commonly felt in international life.
Now is the time for each nation to set its gaze ever further beyond its own boundaries and love other nations as its own.
Reciprocity among peoples could then overcome the old and new logic of partisan tactics and profit making in order to establish relations with all. They will be based on the attitude that “the other” is “another self,” part of the same humanity. Projects for disarmament, development and cooperation can be planned within this framework.
Such reciprocity can make all peoples, even the poorest, protagonists in international life, in the sharing of poverty and wealth, in the resolving of daily problems as well as emergencies. One’s identity and every one’s potential can flourish if they are put at the disposal of other nations and peoples, ever respectful of diversity and intent on furthering a spirit of reciprocal exchange.
If governments and we as individuals do our part, then yes, we can dream of composing a single planetary community.
Is it a utopia? Jesus was the first to sow the seeds for globalization when he said, “May they all be one” (Jn 17:21). He also made us capable of a love that can bring unity to the human family while respecting the diversity of its members.
If we look around, we can see many models of this “new humanity” spread throughout the world. Has the time come for a planetary project?»

Sardegna: A TUTTI I MAGNIFICI GMU

Grazie, grazie, infinitamente grazie per i bellissimi momenti vissuti insieme in occasione di questo Capodanno!!! Sarà impossibile dimenticare il principio del 2013 perché ogni istante è stato speciale, unico!!! Si è stati bene insieme a partire dalla preparazione del grande cenone e poi ancora nel corso di questa prima notte dell’anno, sino ad arrivare agli abbracci e auguri sinceri che ci siamo scambiati tra di noi quando, alle 05.00 circa, abbiamo concluso i fantastici festeggiamenti e pian pianino abbiamo lasciato la fantastica casa che ci ha ospitati!!! Tante, tantissime risate, bellissimi sorrisi, grande gentilezza e strabiliante simpatia: sono questi gli ingredienti del mix perfetto che ci ha dato lo spirito giusto per vivere l'attesa del nuovo anno in un clima di vera gioia e di strabiliante serenità!!! GRAZIE, GRAZIE, GRAZIE INFINITE A CIASCUNO DI VOI!!! Senza alcun dubbio il regalo più bello dell'anno che si è appena concluso siete stati voi, voi GMU, che siete stati la “Colonna Sonora” dei momenti più belli e siete stati capaci di trasmettere al mio animo tanta vitalità, tanta gioia, anche nei momenti più difficili da vivere e da superare!!! Una cosa è certa: siete gli amici migliori che la vita potesse regalarmi!!! Il 2013 sarà un grande anno, ne sono convinto!!! La strabiliante avventura che abbiamo intrapreso in passato continua!!! Syria: We are with you!

On the last day of 2012 our thoughts and efforts are still with the people suffering from war and natural disasters.
Aleppo, Syria. “Gasoline continues to be lacking and what little can be found is sold at exorbitant prices. The same is true for oven gas tanks (5,500 LS compared to 400 LS in March). The electricity has been cut for days and days, leaving the city in a threatening darkness after sunset. Bread is also scarce and it can only be purchased after spending long hours in line, in front of baker’s shops and paying 250 LS for one package (compared to the March price of 20 LS). The army is trying to provide bread, but isn’t able to keep up with the need of the people. School buildings that have not been transformed into havens for refugees are continuing to hold classes. But the lack of electricity makes studying toilsome and difficult (there aren’t even candles anymore). Some have begun to fall ill because of the cold and lack of medicines. Nearly 70% of the pharmacies are on the outskirts of the city and it is quite difficult to obtain medicines from other regions of the country because of road blocks. It is feared that hospitals will soon be unable to continue providing care because oxygen begins to be lacking. Telephone communications are often interrupted. In spite of it all the population is giving quite a great witness of solidarity. The Focolare community and others are taking care of support activities: a small school for the deaf has restarted in a safer area, in a location offered by the Franciscan Fathers. The families that we are visiting one by one, ask us before agreeing to receive our assistance: ‘Isn’t there some other family that is more in need than we are?’ Rim, who has a two-year old boy, was quite concerned that the boy’s cold would worsen, and she was very touched by the help that we were able to provide! It was exactly the same amount of money that her husband had given away a week earlier to a colleague who was in need. It had taken the couple a long time to save up that amount of money, but they had said to each other: ‘God will take care of us!’”

Riparte il “Time Out” per la pace

Di fronte alle guerre assurde che insanguinano il pianeta, solo Dio può venire incontro al bisogno di pace dell’umanità. Ogni giorno a mezzogiorno, un momento di preghiera per chiedere la pace.

È la proposta di Maria Voce ai 350 giovani dei Focolari provenienti da vari Paesi, riuniti a Castel Gandolfo, per esserne primi portatori in tutto il mondo. Sollecitata dalle notizie giunte attraverso alcune lettere dei membri dei Focolari in Medio Oriente, Maria Voce, esprime alla platea un desiderio.

Di fronte “a queste guerre assurde, solamente Dio può venire incontro al bisogno di pace che c’è nell’umanità. Ci vorrebbe veramente una preghiera forte, potente”, “con una fede rinnovata che Dio può farlo, che se si chiede in unità Dio viene incontro”.

Allora la proposta: “Perché non ripristinare a mezzogiorno, il time-out?”, in gergo sportivo una sospensione temporanea del gioco. “Chiara Lubich lo aveva lanciato – continua Maria Voce – durante la guerra del Golfo nel 1991, e in quel momento Dio ha ascoltato le preghiere di tutti”.

Riprendiamo la pratica del Time Out, dunque, con i giovani in prima linea. “Gesù è chiamato il Principe della Pace”, conclude Maria Voce, chiedendo che faccia dono all’umanità di “quella pace giusta, che permetta a tutti, di qualsiasi fede, condizione, Paese, di vivere serenamente la vita; che condivida questo dono della Pace con tutti gli uomini”.

Con un tam-tam sui Social Network i giovani hanno già cominciato a diffondere la notizia creando su Facebook l’evento Time Out for peace.

Appuntamento per tutti a mezzogiorno, nelle nostre città, per chiedere, uniti, il dono della pace.

Kenya: Youth for Peace

In preparation for the presidential election in March 2013, Gen Rosso is inspiring young people to be builders of peace in their country by means of music.
‘Still burning in the Kenyan soul is the pain of the blood-soaked battles of the election in 2007 when more than 1000 people died.
“Never again!” is now the cry of everyone’s heart, while the country prepares for the presidential election in March 2013.
‘Many young people are engaged in initiatives for a year of peace.
‘Sr Bernadette Sangma (principal of Tangaza College) and a group from the Focolare Movement working in the Catholic University of Nairobi, have welcomed this and promoted the idea of the “peace caravan”, which would unify the voices of the university students in Nairobi and make an impression on public opinion. As a symbol of this “earthquake of peace” the idea was to have a song that would be heard loud and clear throughout the nation!
‘This was the request made to Gen Rosso. After the 2007 tour there was already a profound friendship with Tangaza College and after some of us in 2009 went back to Kenya to give lessons and run workshops to teach “music with values”. We had a tradition of working together. How could we refuse this new request?
‘And so the song was written:

Nyuma twasema, kamwe haturudi                                        
wito wetu ni umoja
Be proud of your country! Tribe is not a weapon. The past never comes back. Our call is to be one.

CITTADINI PER LA FRATERNITA’

Tantissimi saluti dal Portogallo!
Dopo l’esperienza di quest’ultimo anno con tante attività e poi il Genfest, tutti noi sentivamo forte il desiderio di avere un progetto da realizzare con i Giovani per un Mondo Unito (GMU) qui nella nostra terra.
Nel fine settimana 17 e 18 di novembre ci siamo tovati alla Mariapoli ArcoIris, cittadella del Portogallo ed abbamo cominciato a sviluppare tale obiettivo.
Il nostro progetto è naturalmente quello che abbiamo lanciato tutti insieme nel Genfest (United World Project), ma come metterlo in pratica? Guardandoci intorno sentivamo di non voler restare indifferenti al contesto politico economico e sociale della società portoghese e alla attuale realtà giovanile. Abbiamo allora fissato la nostra meta: CITTADINI PER LA FRATERNITA’, come risposta ai problemi della nostra società ma avendo come base il nostro ideale del Mondo Unito.
Siamo arrivati a questo incontro tutti pieni di idee e aspettative, invece, nella comunione tra tutti, si è reso necessario il grande passo di perdere ciascuno il suo particolare e così è nato un obiettivo nel quale tutti ci sentivamo contenti e realizzati, ma anche pieni di stupore per questa nuova luce che è venuta fuori dall’unità fra di noi.

Mumbai, India: “Let’s Bridge!”

Many warm greetings from Mumbai, India!

We had the opportunity to participate in the annual Christmas celebration hosted by Cardinal Oswald Gracias. It was an event where religious leaders of various faiths joined in to celebrate Christmas together with the Cardinal and other representatives of the local Church.

The theme this year was “Faith in God brings hope to the world”.

As part of the event, there was a forum where the representatives of the great religions provided an insight into the challenges faced by our societies today ranging from breakdown of the institution of the family, to problems encountered by youth, intolerance etc…

At one point, one of the participants (a representative of the Hindu religion) mentioned that our youth are not a problem rather adults are at fault because they have failed to offer them an ideal to live for.

After this panel discussion, the Youth for a United World were invited to present themselves. We introduced ourselves as young people who have chosen God as the Ideal of our life. We also shared our commitment to live the Golden Rule, putting it into practice in our initiatives at various levels, in particular the United World Project. We explained that through this project we want to spread and promote the culture of universal brotherhood thus bringing hope to the world. With the desire, to express what we try to live, we presented a choreography: “Bridges of Hope”.

At the end of the celebration, we went to greet the Cardinal personally and share more about the United World Project and here you see him with us saying “Let's Bridge!”

«è vissuta regalando, donando tutto»

Chiara ed Enrico: un amore vero - La vera storia della giovane mamma romana che ha dato la vita per il suo figlioletto

Amore: una parola che sentiamo ovunque. Ma quale sia l’amore vero è difficile da comprendere in questa società sempre più individualista. Un esempio concreto è stata per me l’unione tra Chiara Corbella ed Enrico Petrillo.

Visualizzando su internet i video delle loro testimonianze colpiscono subito lo sguardo dolcissimo di lei, il suo bellissimo sorriso e il fatto che il marito le appoggia una mano sulla schiena, per sostenerla. Insieme amavano ripetere le parole di San Francesco: «il contrario dell’amore non è l’odio, ma il possesso».

Oggi il materialismo e il consumismo tentano in tutti i modi di farci credere che per essere felici dobbiamo possedere quanti più beni possibili e questa smania di possesso si proietta anche nei rapporti sentimentali. Chiara ed Enrico hanno invece vissuto in controtendenza, affermando con la loro personale esperienza che amare significa donarsi: «noi non possediamo la vita dei nostri figli», dice Enrico, «nulla ci appartiene ma tutto è dono».

Manfredonia: serata beneficenza Movimento Focolari

A Manfredonia VENERDI’ 28 dicembre 2012, alle 18,00, nel Salone della Parrocchia San Michele, si svolgerà la serata di beneficenza, organizzata dal Movimento dei Focolari. La manifestazione prevede la rappresentazione teatrale sul Natale, creata dai giovani per un mondo unito; la fiera del dolce; una tombolata e l’estrazione dei biglietti della lotteria. 
I biglietti della lotteria si potranno acquistare, contattando i membri del Movimento su citato o, durante la serata. Il ricavato della manifestazione, andrà in beneficenza per vari progetti: progetto Africa; progetto Terra Santa; 2 adozioni a distanza; poveri di Manfredonia.

Dê um presente de Natal diferente: Seja um amigo de coração!

Amizade e união são pontos fundamentais para uma JMJ. É um sonho do coração de Deus, para os corações do mundo inteiro. Então nada melhor do que falar de coração para coração. Neste Natal o Comitê Organizador Local (COL) lançou a campanha“Amigo de Coração”, para que os amigos se presenteiem com inscrições para a Jornada Mundial da Juventude Rio2013.

O Natal é uma ótima oportunidade para alegrar um amigo com algo que será inesquecível em sua vida.

Um dos símbolos da campanha é o Cristo Redentor. Como já disse o Papa Bento XVI, o Cristo deve ser um exemplo para todos nós, de coração e braços abertos para acolher a todos sem distinção. Assim também será a Jornada no Rio.

A campanha está sendo divulgada nas redes sociais e será veiculado em forma de cinta (propaganda que envolve uma publicação) em jornais das capitais Porto Alegre, Florianópolis, Vitória, Brasília e Curitiba.

Seja testemunha do amor de Cristo e dê de presente a algum amigo do coração uma inscrição para a JMJ. Ou até mesmo presenteie a si mesmo! Com certeza essa será uma experiência que ficará marcada para sempre. Seja um amigo de coração!

A Natale fai posto a un pellegrino

Quarantamila giovani arriveranno a Roma da tutta l'Europa per la tappa italiana del "pellegrinaggio di fiducia sulla terra" organizzato dalla comunità di Taizé. Mancano oltre diecimila posti e la Curia romana si appella alle famiglie: bastano due metri quadrati sul pavimento e la colazione

Le prenotazioni hanno superato ogni attesa: sono circa quarantamila i pellegrini che, da tutta Europa, arriveranno a Roma per partecipare alla tappa italiana del "Pellegrinaggio di fiducia sulla terra" lanciato 35 anni fa da frère Roger, fondatore della comunità di preghiera di Taizé. Dal 28 dicembre 2012 al 2 gennaio 2013 la capitale sarà animata da giovani e meno giovani che vogliono vivere un momento spirituale intenso.

Molti degli alloggi sono già stati trovati e, in barba al freddo e a chi crede che le vacanze di Natale significhino solo relax e regali, molti pellegrini dormiranno in camerate senza riscaldamenti e senza docce e senza lamentarsi perché ciò che conta - per loro - è fare un'esperienza di preghiera e di condivisione.

Tante sono state finora le espressioni di generosità, ma in questo periodo di crisi i romani sono chiamati a fare uno sforzo in più. Mancano infatti all'appello ancora oltre diecimila posti. Ecco perché il vicariato di Roma e la comunità di Taizé stanno lanciando appelli alle famiglie affinché aprano le porte delle proprie case per accogliere i pellegrini.

La casa è piccola? Non c'è spazio? Niente paura: bastano due metri quadrati di pavimento libero, in una casa ubicata tra Roma e dintorni, e la possibilità di offrire una semplice colazione per trasformare anche l'abitazione più modesta in un centro di accoglienza e di generosità.

An award for the Hungarian Y4UW

The Hungarian Ministry of Human Resources has given a certificate of merit to the Youth for a United World (Y4UW) in Hungary in recognition for their work in organizing the Genfest in Budapest.
It’s not every day that you go to a Government Ministry to receive official recognition. This is what happened to the Hungarian Y4UW after they had worked so hard, all year round, at organizing the Genfest in their own country. It was a huge event that took place from 31st August to 2nd September 2012. It drew together 12,000 young people from all over the world. Among them, there were 2,000 from Hungary. Rita and Agoston, among the key figures, shared with us all about what happened during the award ceremony that took place at the end of November.
What was the prize for? “At the beginning of October the Hungarian Ministry for Human Resources sent us a message saying: in recognition of our professionalism at the Genfest, the Focolare’s Youth for a United World were to be given a certificate of merit. We were both surprised and happy and the news spread like wild fire among the young people of the Movement. Through the acceptance of our candidature, the Minister conveyed his recognition through an award. This award ceremony took place on 20th November on the Universal Children’s Day.”
The nomination of the Youth for a United World had come from a person within the Ministry along with the State undersecretary of Ministry for Family, Miklós Soltész. Rita and Agoston continued saying: “Both of them were present at the Genfest opening ceremony and they were touched by the dynamism, enthusiasm and sense of fraternity among the young people.”

Un premio ai Giovani per un Mondo Unito ungheresi

 

Il ministero delle Risorse Umane della Repubblica ungherese riconosce con un attestato di merito il lavoro svolto dai giovani ungheresi per la realizzazione del Genfest a Budapest.
Non capita tutti i giorni di varcare la soglia di un ministero per ricevere un riconoscimento ufficiale. È successo ai Giovani per un Mondo Unito (GMU) dell’Ungheria, che per un anno e più hanno lavorato sodo nel loro Paese, per la realizzazione del Genfest, il grande evento che ha radunato nella capitale ungherese 12.000 giovani da tutto il pianeta, dal 31 agosto al 2 settembre 2012. Tra questi, 2000 erano ungheresi. Rita e Agoston, tra i protagonisti, ci raccontano del premio ricevuto alla fine del mese di novembre.
Perché questo premio? «All’inizio di ottobre il Ministero delle Risorse Umane ungherese ci ha inviato un messaggio comunicandoci che, come riconoscimento della nostra professionalità, dimostrata al Genfest, veniva assegnato ai Giovani per un mondo unito dei Focolari un attestato di merito. Siamo rimasti sorpresi e contenti di questa notizia che si è rapidamente diffusa tra i giovani del Movimento. Il ministro, accettando la nostra candidatura, premiava la sezione giovanile del Movimento dei Focolari invitandoci alla premiazione, che si è svolta il 20 novembre in occasione della Giornata universale dei diritti dell’ infanzia».
La nomina dei GMU è stata proposta da una persona del Ministero che, insieme al sottosegretario di Stato per la famiglia e i giovani, Miklós Soltész, era presente all’apertura del Genfest. «Entrambi – continuano Rita e Agoston – erano stati impressionati dal dinamismo, l’entusiasmo e l’esperienza di fratellanza vissuta insieme ai giovani».

Presentazione dello United World Project e raccolta firme

Un'azione organizzata dai giovani per un mondo unito (GMU) di Caserta insieme all'associazione Focus Focolari Coordinamento Caserta per la promozione e la raccolta firme a sostegno del progetto United World Project.

Questa iniziativa si è inserita nell'ambito della XVIII Marcia della Pace svoltasi a Caserta domenica 9 dicembre 2012.

Il giovedì 13 Dicembre, c'è stata un'altra raccolta organizzata dai GMU di Casoria.

Augsburg: "Let's bridge" con i bambini

“Ciao a tutti!
“Let’s bridge” va avanti!
Ad un raduno di tutti noi giovani dopo il Genfest veniva fuori il desiderio di fare un’azione concreta per continuare a costruire ponti.
Sapevamo di una casa per i rifugiati ad Augsburg dove c’era bisogno di un programma pomeridiano per i bambini. Così ci troviamo ogni seconda domenica del mese e dopo un piccolo pensiero, che ci ricorda il perché del nostro agire, ed il pranzo preso insieme, andiamo lì per passare il pomeriggio con ca. 30/40 bambini.
Ci accorgiamo delle diversità di cultura, ma l’amore va oltre e ci fa diventare creativi per esempio nel
cercare le canzoni che vanno bene sia per i cristiani, sia per i musulmani o dei giochi che vanno bene sia per i grandi sia per i piccoli. A fine programma siamo morti ---- perché hanno tanta energia e si deve sempre stare dietro a loro --- ma felici. Non parliamo del nostro ideale di fraternità universale o di cose spirituali, ma costatiamo come il nostro modo di essere, di fare le cose, parla. Si vede infatti dall’attesa gioiosa dei bambini per il nostro ritorno fra loro; con che slancio cantano una canzone che li abbiamo insegnato; nel rapporto costruito con loro.
Il nostro progetto ha appena cominciato, ma già si vede questi piccoli frutti che ci spronano di andare avanti per contribuire ad un mondo sempre più fraterno.
