Terra Santa Giorno 4

Continuando ‘sui passi di Gesù’, oggi una lunga camminata nel deserto, dove abbiamo fatto il Time Out per la pace e poi abbiamo proseguito per il Mar Morto. 

Due esperienze nuove e che ci rimangono impresse nel cuore, oltre alle mille possibilità di costruire ponti tra di noi e con ci è passato accanto. 

Domani in Galilea, Nazareth!!

Holy Land Day 3

A full morning of sharing at the University of Bethlehem: a workshop on reconciliation and peace! 

Fraternity lived in daily life, hidden to most people, is the focus of the conversation held with about 200 young people present at the Souborn Hall. The university itself is a striking example: its classes are composed by Christians and Muslims in peaceful coexistence, even though aware of their diversities. A young lady said: “I am happy to see with my own eyes that religion is not a division point but a starting point to build bridges.”

In the afternoon, visit to the Basilica of the Nativity: moments of deep emotion especially for Christians.

Tomorrow walk in the desert on the path of El Wadi Kelt, visit to Jericho, and then continue the Dead Sea.

Holy Land Day 2

“Ho potuto capire perché Gesù ha detto che le sue parole sono eterne... tutto può cambiare ma quello che Lui ha detto rimane.”

“Nel Getsemani Gesù ha sudato sangue, si è chiesto tanti perché... Se Lui  si è già fatto tante domande, non vale la pena che me le faccia anch’io: devo prendere la risposta che Gesù mi ha dato.”

Come vedete, la giornata è stata davvero ‘portentosa’: al  Monte degli Ulivi, al Getsemani e poi sulla Via Dolorosa a Gerusalemme.

Nel pomeriggio, l’atteso incontro col sindaco di Betlemme: una donna di pace! Abbiamo sperimentato una grandissima sintonia con lei: ci ha spronato a vivere la regola d’oro ricordandoci che per costruire ponti ci vogliono due cose: un cuore coraggioso e una volontà forte!

A domani, all’università di Betlemme!

Holy Land Day 1

Here we are at the end of our 1st day in the Holy Land. A very fruitful day! 

Morning: rest. In the afternoon: visit to Shepherd’s Field, Bethlehem.

After dinner, time dedicated to knowing each other better and presentation of the Holy Land from a historical, geographical and political point of view, culminating with a typical local dance. Everybody’s happy and willing to…………… BE THE BRIDGE!

Tomorrow the adventure goes on:

Jerusalem - Visit to the Mount of Olives, panorama of the Dominus Flevit, Gethsemane, “Suq” (typical market) of the old city.

Bethlehem - Meeting with the Mayor.

To end the day, dinner & meeting at the homes of the local youth.

Appuntamento il 1° maggio per la conclusione dell’anno del Genfest, con uno sguardo speciale alla Terra Santa.

È un richiamo esplicito al Genfest di Budapest “Let’s Bridge” dello scorso settembre il titolo che i giovani del Movimento dei Focolari hanno scelto per la Settimana Mondo Unito 2013. Evento centrale è il 1° maggio, con 4 punti forti di aggregazione: Gerusalemme, simbolo di pace; Loppiano, da sempre legata alla storia dei Giovani per un Mondo Unito; Mumbai, sulle vie del dialogo interreligioso; Budapest, la capitale che ha ospitato i 12mila giovani del Genfest. A rendere visibile questa rete mondiale già in atto, saranno i collegamenti live durante la giornata del 1° maggio, tra queste 4 città.

Essere ponti, dunque, gettare ponti di fraternità sulla linea dello United World Project (Progetto Mondo unito) che proprio al Genfest ha mosso i suoi primi passi. In questi mesi in diversi punti del pianeta, molti giovani hanno proseguito il cammino, cogliendo la “fraternità in atto” nel vissuto proprio e circostante, intensificando attività ed iniziative per sensibilizzare la pubblica opinione nei propri paesi, contribuendo come cittadini attivi a realizzare una cultura di pace e dialogo, dove la diversità e multiculturalità siano benvenute. Come a Chicago, dove i Giovani per un Mondo Unito insieme all’associazione Mosque Cares si sono trovati al centro culturale Ephraim Bahar per preparare 150 pasti, ‘kit di sopravvivenza’ e una selezione di abiti per uomo/donna da distribuire ai senza tetto del quartiere. O come a Montevideo, dove una delegazione di Giovani per un Mondo Unito dell’Uruguay, insieme ad alcuni professionisti impegnati nel settore dell’educazione, è stata ricevuta da María Paz Echeverriarza, la responsabile per l’area educazione della Rappresentanza dell’Unesco presso i governi di Argentina, Uruguay e Paraguay. Un’occasione per presentare lo UWP e raccontare della rete esistente attorno all’opera sociale Nueva Vida, da dove – pur in un contesto di emarginazione – sono partite, con successo, piccole aziende. E ancora la “Settimana della buona volontà”, in Serbia: in un centro culturale alternativo i giovani hanno realizzato forum di attivismo sociale, proiezioni di film, azioni per aiutare persone in difficoltà, fra cui – oltre la raccolta di viveri – anche la donazione del sangue.

Due giorni di forte impegno dei Giovani per un mondo unito del Movimento dei focolari impegnati nel “Cantiere legalità”: serata dibattito con l'autore de L'uomo d'onore non paga il pizzo, con imprenditori antiracket e magistrati e laboratorio sul rating della legalità

Due giorni di grande attività dei Giovani per un mondo unito della Campania. Presentazione, venerdì 19 aprile, nella sala consiliare del comune di Sant’Anastasia in provincia di Napoli, assieme all’associazione “Lucincittà”, del libro di Roberto Mazzarella, edito da Città Nuova, "L'uomo d'onore non paga il pizzo". Un dibattito sulle scelte importanti da declinare sul territorio a partire dalla denuncia del racket fino alla legalità dei piccoli gesti quotidiani. I giovani si confronteranno con l’autore, con Salvatore Cantone, imprenditore e fondatore dell'Associazione antiracket e antiusura di Pomigliano d'Arco, e con Francesco Abete, magistrato del Tribunale di Napoli. Sabato 20 aprile, Caserta ospiterà una manifestazione sulla proposta del “rating della legalità” con la presenza, oltre a Mazzarella e Cantone, di Antonio Diana, vicepresidente Confindustria Caserta, Leandro Limoccia, presidente dell'Associazione coordinamento campano contro le camorre, Stefania Papa, Movimento dei Focolari, e Luca Palmieri, responsabile del Movimento Giovani per un Mondo Unito Campania e del Meeting legalità di Caserta.

Alla Fu Jen university, una intera mattinata dedicata a Edc

Sabato 13 aprile, secondo giorno della Conferenza Internazionale sul Pensiero di Chiara Lubich in corso alla  Fu Jen University di Taipei, una intera mattinata è stata dedicata all’EdC. Davvero grande l’interesse e profondo l’ascolto per il messaggio dell’EdC, dovuto anche al fatto che da anni qui alcuni professori di economia e business - tra cui Teresa Chan -  lavorano attorno a questo tema.

La sessione si è aperta con l’intervento di Luigino Bruni che ha messo in luce “l’eredità” di Chiara Lubich nel pensiero economico, l’Edc. Nelle conclusioni la proposta di creare alla Fu Jen University un piccolo Centro studi permanente su EdC a Taiwan, che scopra come i principi EdC possano essere applicati e sviluppati per migliorare l’economia e la società taiwanese. A seguire 4 relazioni in due sessioni parallele, tenute dai docenti locali che da anni studiano il progetto, nelle quali è stato messo in luce il rapporto tra la cultura cinese (confucianesimo e buddismo) e i principi dell’EdC, una relazione statistica sui dati esistenti sul sito, ed i messaggi che dall’Edc provengono a Taiwan e alla Cina.

The 2000-year-old steps that Jesus may have walked on to get to Gethsemane. These are the steps going past the determined courtyard of the High Priest Caiaphas. This site is one of the most authentic archaeological sites in Jerusalem.

This is the locality that the Youth for a United World have chosen for the worldwide link-up to end the Genfest Year and open the 2013 United World Week.

Fear is not the answer

The young people in Boston want to show the world that fear is not the answer. A walk to ‘finish’ the marathon on Friday 19th April will be a sign of hope.

Joanna: “I was so anxious
to know if my friends
were ok.”

Two days after the bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, the city remains traumatized, partly paralyzed. The inhabitants, though shaken and shattered by the violence, want to stand up against the sense of fear: “We’re the ones todecide when to finish the marathon,” says Joanna, a 19 year-old college student in Boston. An event has been organized for Friday evening – to walk the last five miles of the marathon, which is where the police forced them to stop. The walk will be a sign of hope to show the world that there’s more good than bad in the city of Boston.

Joanna was cheering for several friends who were running in the marathon; she was standing about five miles away from the finish line. “All of a sudden, there was chaos; there were cops everywhere telling the people that the race was over.” Joanna was scared; nobody knew what happened, more-so because the cell phones were not working. There was talk that there had been two explosions, then she overheard two policemen speaking about a bomb attack. “I started to realize that my friends were right there in the middle of it all, and I was so anxious to know if they were ok”. Feeling helpless, Joanna took refuge in a cafe’ when one of her friends who had participated in the marathon walked in the door. “I bought him something to eat; I listened to him”. By doing these simple acts of love, Joanna realized that we can’t remain paralyzed with fear.

She found out that all her friends were fine, though one girl was very close to the bombings. “Unfortunately, a lot of families and other students cannot say the same,” says Joanna, “I’m praying for them.” Every evening, Joanna goes to Mass at 10 pm, and she invited all her friends to go with her. To her surprise, they all turned up. Mass there was normally attended by just a handful of people, but this time the Church was full.  They weren’t all Christian, but everybody felt the need to pray.

More than 12,000 people have already signed up for the Friday walk. Though the sad, strange atmosphere still lingers and continues to be a suffering, Joanna is sure of one thing: “We have to show the world that love is stronger. We have to believe more than ever before in a united world, and to do our little part.”

“Be the Bridge” in the Holy Land

The Jerusalem event is a follow-up to the Genfest 2012, in Budapest, where 12,000 young people from all over the world gathered.

Why Jerusalem?

«What we really want –wrote The Youth for a United World – is to witness everywhere universal brotherhood, and immediately we thought of Jerusalem, a city of contrasts and divisions, and at the same time the cradle of a millenary culture, a weave of peoples and religions, called since its foundation to fulfil a project of peace».

The year of the Genfest was inaugurated on the 1^st May 2012 with the motto “Let’s Bridge”. It was a year of dedicated to building bridges everywhere, in every corner of the globe.

This year, the 1st May 2013 in Jerusalem aims to be an important step in history, a significant moment in the realization of the worldwide project launched at the Genfest 2012:  the

“United World Project” (www.unitedworldproject.org).

What’s the goal of this trip?

To build bridges of peace and reciprocity, by practising the "Golden Rule" (Do unto others what you want them to do to you... Do not do unto others what you do not want them to do to you).

Dates:  Arrival in Jerusalem on the 24^th April and departure on the 2^nd of May

Cultural and artistic events, workshop with the international bands “Gen Verde” and “Gen Rosso”.

1^st May: top event within the interreligious and academic sphere, with a worldwide transmission.

Launching of the United World Project in Zambia

“Well, I am here today, representing the Youth for a United World (Y4UW), a branch of the Focolare Movement.

What I am about to tell you is something really interesting! I hope that all of you will get this great idea! Or at least, become curious about it. It is something that has emerged from the youth but it is open to everyone else! It is the “United World Project”.

Last year I was in Europe, and I attended an international meeting in Budapest – Hungary. It was the Genfest 2012, a youth meeting like this DYD (Diocesan Youth Day), we were youth coming from all over the world. We were more than 12,000 present in Budapest and connected to more than half a million youth through the social networks. The theme of the Genfest was “Let’s Bridge”. The aim was to build “bridges of fraternity” between different peoples, different cultures, different ages…

And it was there, in the Genfest that this new project was launched. Since then, we are working very hard on this project.

• il pullman partirà da Casoria alle 5 del mattino del 1 maggio, farà tappa a Caserta; il rientro è previsto intorno a mezzanotte;
