Una scuola a Dawal in Pakistan, in Egitto, in Italia, che pur in diversi contesti culturali realizza una pedagogia di comunione. A Castelgandolfo 650 pedagogisti ed educatori si confrontano su progetti formativi e sulle sfide dell'educare

Arrivando al Centro Mariapoli di Castelgandolfo per il convegno Learning fraternity, cioè Imparando la fraternità, si ha l’impressione di respirare su temi alti e buone prassi messe in pratica da 650 educatori dei 5 continenti che si confrontano sulle sfide dell’educazione. Chi investe nella scuola investe nel futuro e sulle interconnessioni culturali, sociali, ambientali, economiche riscontrabili anche nel microcosmo di piccole comunità: anche lontanissime come la scuola pubblica di Dawal, nel Punjab, nazionalizzata nel 1970, per le travagliate vicende del Paese e poi ridotta ad uno stato totale di abbandono. Nel 1999 la scuola è stata restituita alla Chiesa cattolica che l’ha affidata alle focolarine del luogo. La scuola è ricominciata sotto un albero, all’aperto, senza strutture, le aule non erano più agibili, ma era una vera scuola perché c’era l’essenziale sin dal principio: l’umanizzazione, il rispetto di tutte le identità e la relazione, la testimonianza e il dialogo.

Francis Says It Is Possible to Break the Cycle of Violence

Pope Francis led a massive, reverent crowd in praying for peace this evening in St. Peter's Square.

Last Sunday, he declared today a Day of Fasting and Prayer for Peace in Syria and throughout the world. The response to his request was global, with religious leaders from the Middle East and all around the world -- including the Grand Mufti of Syria, Ahmad Badreddin Hassou, the spiritual leader of Sunni Islam in Syria -- welcoming the initiative.

The four-hour service in the Vatican included the praying of the rosary, and silent time of Eucharistic adoration. The crowd was estimated at more than 100,000.

Francis offered a reflection, in which he exhorted us to ask ourselves the question, “Am I really my brother’s keeper?”

“Yes, you are your brother’s keeper! To be human means to care for one another,” he exclaimed in response.

The Holy Father said that “we bring about the rebirth of Cain in every act of violence and in every war. All of us! And even today we continue this history of conflict between brothers, even today we raise our hands against our brother. Even today, we let ourselves be guided by idols, by selfishness, by our own interests, and this attitude persists. We have perfected our weapons, our conscience has fallen asleep, and we have sharpened our ideas to justify ourselves. As if it were normal, we continue to sow destruction, pain, death! Violence and war lead only to death, they speak of death! Violence and war are the language of death!”

“Learning Fraternity”: sharing good practices

An international conference-workshop on education aims to offer new formative ways in a changing society, at a moment when the world is anxiously living the aggravating situation in the Middle East.

The main objective of “Learning Fraternity”, held at Castel Gandolfo, Rome from 6^th to 8^th September, is to share good practices and initiatives implemented in different cultural contexts to obtain from them shared pedagogical lines of conduct leading to fraternity and peace.  The 650 educators from 35 different countries attending this conference will participate in lectures, in the sharing of good practices and in workshops. There are numerous stands to attend to.

A grave situação da Síria e a ameaça de Paz que vivemos hoje, não nos pode deixar indiferentes. Por isso, no dia 1 quando o Papa Francisco lançou a todos - não só à “Igreja Católica, mas (…) a todos os cristãos de outras confissões, aos homens e mulheres de todas as religiões e também àqueles irmãos e irmãs que não crêem” - o desafio de vivermos um dia em especial pela paz. Fazendo jejum, oração, oferecer todos os nossas acções de paz pela situação atual no Médio Oriente, em especial pela Síria, vimos aqui uma forma de agir.

Por isso propomos a todos – uma corrente de oração!

Tre giorni di storia, cultura e tradizione, al via venerdì nel borgo Casamale. Il sindaco Allocca: «Ci sono tanti giovani e dove ci sono loro l’amministrazione non può mancare».

Dal 1991 al 2013, il Palio di Somma Vesuviana nato da un’idea dei Giovani per un Mondo Unito compie 23 anni. Rievocazione delle origini cittadine, esaltazione dei valori, recupero delle tradizioni: la festa popolare è tutto questo e molto altro ancora. Arte, cultura, ma anche solidarietà perché i GMU di Somma Vesuviana destinano, per statuto, i fondi raccolti con la manifestazione ad iniziative benefiche e di comunione tra i popoli. Quest’anno in particolare, il Palio si unisce a «Sharing with Africa». Il Palio ha infinite sfaccettature, contiene vari eventi nell’evento: storia, gioco popolare, canto, danza, tradizione, tutto intrecciato in una tre giorni di festa.

Si parte venerdì 6 settembre, quest’anno nel borgo Casamale, con il tempo della memoria e della cultura popolare, con la musica e i sapori tradizionali che rivivono nel rione vincitore dell’ultima edizione. Sabato 7 i cittadini e i turisti potranno assistere ancora una volta alla rievocazione storica della Somma angioina, il regale rito dell’investitura del Magister Nundinarum, la fiera medievale, le danze e i sapori antichi. Il clou, la gara tanto attesa, arriverà domenica 8 con i giochi e la sfida tra le contrade storiche della città per la conquista del Palio, con i ritmi della tammorra e un tripudio di folla a incitare gli stendardi.

FRATERNITÀ, UNA PROPOSTA PER IL MONDO DELL’EDUCAZIONE

La questione educativa è al centro del dibattito mondiale. Le domande che oggi la società pone al mondo dell’educazione sono da affrontare con decisione perché educare oggi è una sfida irrinunciabile. Il Meeting sull’educazione vuole affrontare questa scommessa tra quanti operano nel campo dell’educazione, con il contributo di esperti, testimoni, adulti e giovani, famiglie e insegnanti.

An audience with King Abdullah

The President and co-president of the Focolare had an audience with His Majesty King Abdullah II

The unexpected news confirming the audience reached us on Tuesday afternoon, filling the Focolare members with joy as they concluded the events of the past few days.  Here are some of the first impressions shared by Maria Voce following the audience.

Maria Voce: “His Majesty welcomed us warmly, saying that he was honoured by our visit. I thanked him for the welcome we received by his country. I underlined the reason for my visit was precisely to bring him my thanks and the gratitude of the Focolare Movement. He wanted to be updated on our work in Jordan. Therefore, I informed him that the participants to our meetings came from several countries and that they were Christians and Muslims, all united in the spirit of universal brotherhood. I thought it was important to highlight the fact that it was possible to hold a series of such meetings here in Jordan, precisely because of the spirit of openness and tolerance that characterizes this land.”

A chain of commitment for peace

The Focolare Movement unites itself in prayer and fasting for Syria proposed by Pope Francis. Maria Voce shares her experience from Jordan.

«The two words that impose themselves at this extremely dramatic and dangerous moment are: total commitment to answer to Pope Francis’ appeal for prayer and fasting while expressing gratitude to him for giving voice to the hearts of millions of people of all faiths from all over the world».

This is how Maria Voce expressed the feelings of the Focolare Movement from Amman, where she is meeting the Focolare communities of countries in the Middle East and North Africa. The members present form a mosaic of Churches (Catholic, Coptic Orthodox, Greek-Orthodox and Greek-Catholics, Maronites, Armenians, Chaldeans, Syrian Orthodox and Syrian Catholics) together with a good number of Muslims coming from Algeria, Morocco, Turkey and Jordan.

In his impassioned plea for peace, Pope Francis said that “it is not a culture of confrontation, a culture of conflict” that builds “harmony within and between peoples, but a culture of encounter, a culture of dialogue: this is the only way to peace”. And it is really touching to hear the experience that families and young people are living in Aleppo: “In spite of everything, we continue to build bridges of love and unity with others (...), to sow seeds of hope in those who suffer, to fill sad hearts with God’s presence; we do our utmost to give love to others. (...) We pray for peace threatened in the world and in the Middle East, especially in Syria, Egypt, Lebanon and Iraq; and we pray for the triumph of God’s love in the world”.

Il Movimento di Chiara Lubich si unisce alla giornata di preghiera e di digiuno proposta da papa Francesco per chiedere la pace in Siria. Ogni giorno alle 12 il Time-Out: un minuto di silenzio o di preghiera per la fine del conflitto impegna gli aderenti al movimento dall'inizio della guerra

«Due parole s’impongono in queste ore estremamente drammatiche e pericolose: impegno totale nel rispondere a papa Francesco con la preghiera e il digiuno e gratitudine per aver dato voce ai cuori di milioni di uomini di tutte le fedi e di popoli di tutte le latitudini».

Così Maria Voce esprime il sentire del Movimento dei Focolari da Amman, in Giordania, dove sta incontrando le comunità dei Focolari dei Paesi di Medio Oriente e Nord Africa. Un mosaico di Chiese (cattolici, copto-ortodossi, greco-ortodossi e greco-cattolici, maroniti, armeni, caldei, siro-ortodossi e siro-cattolici) ed una nutrita rappresentanza di musulmani provenienti dall’Algeria, Marocco, Turchia e Giordania.

Papa Francesco afferma nel suo accorato appello che «non è la cultura dello scontro, la cultura del conflitto» a costruire «la convivenza nei popoli e tra i popoli, ma la cultura dell’incontro, la cultura del dialogo: questa è l’unica strada per la pace».  Ed è toccante sentire l’eco che arriva da famiglie e giovani della comunità dei Focolari di Aleppo: «Continuiamo nonostante tutto a costruire ponti di amore e unità con gli altri […], seminiamo la speranza nell’umanità sofferente attorno a noi, riempiamo i cuori tristi con la presenza di Dio, facciamo di tutto per portare l’amore agli altri. […] E preghiamo per la pace tanto minacciata nel mondo e nel Medio Oriente, soprattutto in Siria, Egitto, Libano ed Iraq e perché trionfi l’amore di Dio nel mondo».

Con tutti gli uomini di buona volontà, gli aderenti dei Focolari intensificano il loro personale impegno nel diffondere e moltiplicare “gesti di pace” cominciando dai propri ambienti, come incoraggia a fare papa Francesco. Inoltre si raccolgono in preghiera quotidiana per la pace alle ore 12, di ogni fuso orario, nei 194 Paesi dove il Movimento è radicato. Il motivo viene sintetizzato da Maria Voce: «Per metterci di fronte a Dio e porci al suo servizio, perché possa usarci come strumenti di pace in tutti i nostri Paesi».

I membri dei Focolari parteciperanno alla giornata indetta dal papa per il prossimo 7 settembre per la pace in Siria, in Medio Oriente e nel mondo intero, unendosi alle forme più varie di preghiera, nelle parrocchie, nelle comunità, sulle strade e nelle case, in centinaia di città del mondo.

LegalITA - Meeting Caserta 2013

Quanti echi belli sono arrivati dal Meeting di Caserta di luglio/agosto scorso!!! I Giovani per un Mondo Unito hanno approfondito culturalmente, concretamente e spiritualemente il tema della legalità che apre la strada alle relazioni fra tutte le persone che si incontrano nella giornata: piccoli o grandi, maschi o femmine, ricchi o poveri, locali o stranieri,... con tutti, per costruire una comunità che comincia da me e da te. Il nostro traguardo: il MONDO UNITO. Chi può mai dimenticare il Meeting di Caserta?

So many people are talking about the wonderful 'LegalITA' Meeting in Caserta (South Italy), held in last July-August. The Youth for a United World have deepened through various aspects the theme on legality that opens the way to relationships with each and every person we meet in our day-to-day life, whether young and old, male or female, rich or poor, local or foreigners... with all, in order build a community that starts from me and you. Our goal is a UNITED WORLD. Who could every forget what happened in Caserta?  

“Mai più la guerra!”

Domenica 1° settembre, Papa Francesco si è rivolto alle numerose persone convenuti in Piazza San Pietro con queste parole:

Cari fratelli e sorelle, buongiorno!

Quest’oggi, cari fratelli e sorelle, vorrei farmi interprete del grido che sale da ogni parte della terra, da ogni popolo, dal cuore di ognuno, dall’unica grande famiglia che è l’umanità, con angoscia crescente: è il grido della pace! E’ il grido che dice con forza: vogliamo un mondo di pace, vogliamo essere uomini e donne di pace, vogliamo che in questa nostra società, dilaniata da divisioni e da conflitti, scoppi la pace; mai più la guerra! Mai più la guerra! La pace è un dono troppo prezioso, che deve essere promosso e tutelato.

Vivo con particolare sofferenza e preoccupazione le tante situazioni di conflitto che ci sono in questa nostra terra, ma, in questi giorni, il mio cuore è profondamente ferito da quello che sta accadendo in Siria e angosciato per i drammatici sviluppi che si prospettano. Rivolgo un forte Appello per la pace, un Appello che nasce dall’intimo di me stesso! Quanta sofferenza, quanta devastazione, quanto dolore ha portato e porta l’uso delle armi in quel martoriato Paese, specialmente tra la popolazione civile e inerme! Pensiamo: quanti bambini non potranno vedere la luce del futuro! Con particolare fermezza condanno l’uso delle armi chimiche! Vi dico che ho ancora fisse nella mente e nel cuore le terribili immagini dei giorni scorsi! C’è un giudizio di Dio e anche un giudizio della storia sulle nostre azioni a cui non si può sfuggire! Non è mai l’uso della violenza che porta alla pace. Guerra chiama guerra, violenza chiama violenza!

New bioethical dilemmas arise with 3D printers — will we end up counterfeiting creation?

One day a cartoon posted on Facebook attracted my attention: two relaxed parents sitting on different couches with a 3D printer on the floor of their living room, from which a baby was coming out. It was called “the future of baby-making.”

Sure, it portrayed some futuristic exaggeration, yet there was something prophetic about it. Just a few weeks before, I had received an email from a former bioethics student with a link to a video where Dr. Anthony Atala, from Harvard University, demonstrated how he was able to produce a kidney through a 3D printer.

In May it was announced that kidneys were now being reproduced by printers, and scientists were speaking of doing the same for hearts and, one day, even brains! All this is happening before the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has even adopted an official policy on “bioprinting” body parts.

I was exhilarated in reading this news, since I am very aware of the many people who die every day because of the scarcity of organ donations. However, I could not hide the subtle fear that permeated my thoughts: what else would come? Would we know when to use this new technology to save lives? Would we know where to draw the line, or would we really push it to printing “brains?”

Amman: affrontando insieme le sfide pressanti

In Giordania le comunità dei Focolari del Medio Oriente e Nord Africa s’incontrano con Maria Voce, presidente del Movimento, mentre il mondo intero segue con apprensione lo svolgersi degli eventi nella tormentata regione mediorientale.

In queste ore in cui si spera fortemente che la via del dialogo e della negoziazione ponga fine al conflitto e alle violenze in corso in Siria, da ieri 29 agosto e fino al 10 settembre la presidente dei Focolari Maria Voce, accompagnata dal copresidente Giancarlo Faletti, si trova in Giordania per incontrare delegazioni del Movimento di varie nazioni del Medio Oriente e del Nord Africa.

Ad Amman sono per questo convenuti laici e religiosi, giovani, adulti e famiglie, provenienti, oltre che dalla Giordania, da Turchia, Cipro, Libano, Siria, Iraq, Egitto, Algeria, Marocco, Tunisia e Terra Santa. Giorni di incontri e bilancio, oltre alla possibilità di tracciare una prospettiva futura della presenza del Movimento in questa parte di mondo che vive realtà drammatiche.

Punto di riferimento del presente viaggio è quello fatto da Chiara Lubich ad Amman, nel 1999, per partecipare all’Assemblea Generale della Conferenza Mondiale delle Religioni per la Pace e per incontrare, già allora, membri del Movimento dei diversi Paesi della regione.

APPEAL FOR SYRIA

After an air raid

On August 30, the Movement for Unity in Politics issued the following Press Release:

The increasingly critical situation in Syria requires a thorough evaluation of the political and diplomatic instruments at the disposal of the international community to solve this conflict.

First of all, we believe it is urgent to explore all the remaining possibilities of negotiation in order to follow the track that was initiated in Geneva. If this path were to prove successful, it would surely bring about a great stability in the internal affairs, as well as between the Middle East countries.

Secondly, considering the seriousness of the violation, the verification of the responsibility for the use of chemical weapons should be done in the best possible way and with transparency. This assessment should be carried out by independent bodies under a UN mandate, and with full operating conditions.

United Nations

In any case, no intervention must be made without a specific United Nations mandate. Any initiative outside this context is not to be considered legitimate.

Besides, an intervention which is not accompanied by a strategy based on national reconciliation, transitional justice, and political and institutional reconstruction, agreed with all those who are involved at an internal and international level, would be inconsistent and counterproductive.

It is precisely the complexity of the Syrian crisis that confirms the need for a regional agreement for the resolution of disputes and tensions before they turn into serious conflicts. This process should be encouraged and supported in all possible ways, in every political and diplomatic encounter.

The development of peaceful and constructive relations throughout the Mediterranean and the Middle East area – that foster inter-independent paths of equitable development, pluralistic and balanced growth among the populations of the region – demands undertaking the responsibility for bilateral and multilateral relations with these countries and draws into the picture all governments, societies and citizens. 

We therefore address a strong appeal to the organisms of the international community and to all parties concerned to take urgent steps - with the full awareness of the consequences of their choices – leading to a just and long-lasting peace.

500 giovani di Piacenza incontrano Papa Francesco

Per Papa Francesco l’incontro con 500 ragazzi di Piacenza-Bobbio, non è stata uno dei soliti impegni dell’agenda. Piuttosto è stata un’ora di svago e di allegria, perché lui lo ha detto chiaramente: “A me piace stare con i giovani”.

Gli piace – ha spiegato - perché i giovani hanno nel cuore “una promessa di speranza”, sono “artefici del futuro”, “ricercatori di bellezza” e “profeti di bontà” ed è bello stare con chi ha nelle mani la capacità di costruire un mondo migliore.

“Grazie per questa visita – ha detto infatti in apertura del suo discorso pronunciato a braccio -. Il vescovo ha detto che ho fatto un grande gesto a venire qui, ma io l’ho fatto con ‘egoismo’,  sapete perché? Perché mi piace stare con voi”.

Ha poi aggiunto: “Quando a me dicono: Ma, Padre, che brutti tempi, questi … Guarda, non si può fare niente!. Come, non si può fare niente? E spiego che si può fare tanto!”. Quando però – ha proseguito – “un giovane mi dice: Che brutti tempi, questi, Padre, non si può fare niente!, lo mando dallo psichiatra, eh?”, perché “non si capisce un giovane, un ragazzo, una ragazza, che non vogliano fare una cosa grande, scommettere su ideali grandi per il futuro, no? Poi faranno quello che possono, ma la scommessa è per cose grandi e belle”.

APPELLO PER LA SIRIA

Il Movimento politico per l’unità lancia questo forte appello per la Siria:

L’aggravarsi della situazione siriana, richiede una valutazione approfondita degli strumenti politici e diplomatici di cui la comunità internazionale dispone per la risoluzione di tale conflitto.

In primo luogo riteniamo che vadano urgentemente esplorate tutte le possibilità ancor esistenti per soluzioni negoziali della crisi, sul solco delle iniziative che avevano preso avvio a Ginevra; tale percorso avrebbe, infatti, effetti di maggiore stabilizzazione all’interno e tra i Paesi dell’area medio orientale.

In secondo luogo l’accertamento delle responsabilità sull’uso di armi chimiche deve avvenire con il rigore richiesto dalla gravità della violazione secondo modalità trasparenti e da parte di organi indipendenti sotto mandato dell’ONU, in condizioni di piena operatività.

Nessun intervento deve, comunque, essere mai compiuto senza uno specifico mandato dell’ONU. Al di fuori di tale contesto nessuna iniziativa può considerarsi legittima.

Usually, when I travel for training or other work commitments, I like to get on the Internet and keep up to date with what’s going on in the world. We can do that on the Station too, but up here I feel distant from the problems and all that negative energy that you can absorb by reading the daily news. I really feel removed. Curiously, it’s only at this distance that you realise just how far we tend to think of the Earth in terms of locations and different places — the 5 continents, different cities, the various countries just beyond our borders. But from up here, I see that we’ve invented this division. There are no boundaries in the world! From this distance, you can’t tell the height of a mountain, the depth of a valley or the immensity of a river, so the world becomes one: free from borders. The notion that there on Earth there are people fighting — killing each other and being killed — in order to be in one place rather than another, seems completely alien from here.

As this is the first time I’ve had this extraordinary experience, I don’t know whether all this is just my impression or if my predecessors felt it too. But seeing the Earth as one single place, as the amazing jewel that it is, is a very real and tangible sensation.

Dal 28 agosto al 10 settembre la presidente dei Focolari, accompagnata dal copresidente Faletti, visiterà la Giordania, dove incontrerà tanti membri del Movimento provenienti dal Medio Oriente. Un viaggio all’insegna dell’incontro e della pace.

Al limite orientale del Mediterraneo, punto di incontro di Asia, Europa ed Africa, il Medio Oriente è stato la culla di grandi civiltà e delle 3 religioni monoteiste. Per millenni i popoli di queste terre hanno esercitato un influsso notevolissimo sull’Asia minore e sull’Europa mediterranea. Egiziani, Assiri, Babilonesi, Ittiti, Fenici, Persiani, Greci, Arabi, Turchi hanno lasciato un’impronta incancellabile con la loro cultura, la loro arte, le loro religioni.

È in quest’area che sono nate le tre fedi monoteiste: L’ebraismo, il cristianesimo, l’Islam; ed è qui che sorge la città Santa (delle 3 religioni), Gerusalemme.

“we believe that in spite of everything, peace is still possible”

From 28^th August to 10^th September, the Focolare president and co-president will visit Jordan in order to meet the members of the Focolare Movement in the Middle East. The meeting will focus on the theme of “peace and encounter”.

The Middle East has been the cradle of the great civilizations and the three monotheistic religions. For thousands of years these lands held a very noticeable influence on Asia Minor and the European Mediterranean. Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Hittites, Phoenicians, Persians, Greeks, Arabs and Turks have let an indelible mark through their culture, art and religions. Judaism, Christianity and Islam started in this region, and it was in Jerusalem that the holy city is founded.

27^th November, 1999 in Jordan was an unforgettable day for the Focolare members of this area. Founder Chiara Lubich met some one thousand members in Amman. They came from more than 20 different countries (from the Middle East and beyond), some travelling over 20 hours by bus, others in airplanes, and overcoming impossible obstacles. These thousand persons represented more than 25,000 people who belong to the Movement in these lands. On that occasion, Chiara said: “It’s wonderful to be with you. We are many peoples, but in this hall we are one.”

Appello urgente per la pace nel Mediterraneo e in Medio Oriente. Non c’è più tempo per l’indifferenza e l’ipocrisia. Agire è difficile. Non farlo sarà catastrofico.

Sveglia! Quello che sta succedendo ad un passo dai nostri confini (in Siria, Egitto ma non solo) è estremamente pericoloso. E richiede la nostra attenzione urgente perché riguarda molto da vicino la vita nostra e dei nostri figli.

Chi più di noi può capire che qui nel Mediterraneo si sta forgiando il nostro futuro? Chi più di noi deve temere le conseguenze drammatiche delle stragi quotidiane di vite umane, delle atrocità e dei crimini che si stanno consumando lungo le sponde di questo mare?

Eppure la politica tace. E quando parla, nessuno se ne accorge. L’informazione è distorta, superficiale, frammentata. E anche la coscienza civile sembra disinteressata e disimpegnata.

There are many good reasons why more and more people go jogging in parks, bike through the streets, or even do calisthenics on the beach. Clearly, our bodies have yet to adapt to the fact that the world – or at least most of it – has changed. We still find greasy, high-calorie foods more attractive than vegetables and lean meals, which makes sense when we think that for roughly one hundred thousand years (the period of the early homo-sapiens) the necessary calories for hunting, keeping warm, escaping from predators and surviving were scarce.

The human body takes much longer than society and culture to change. Thus, to stay healthy we must balance the natural impulses of our bodies with activities that burn our excess calories. We must artificially change our eating habits and go on diets that are costly both to society and individuals.

Likewise, our society consumes more junk food than health food and does not make the effort to get in shape. Our parents and grandparents are the last remnants of a world defined by scarcity, where famine and starvation were a constant threat. Back then, the symbols of prosperity were abundance, plenitude and the increase, in size and number, of individual possessions (a new home or vehicle) and community assets (from church steeples to high-rise towers).

Il video é quello dell’indimenticabile discorso tenuto alla marcia a Washington per l’occupazione e la libertà, Washington, 28 agosto 1963; la traduzione (di Tania Gargiulo) é ripresa da Martin Luther King, “I have a dream”, Mondadori, Milano 2000, 2001, pp. 226-230.

Così Martin Luther King descrisse la circostanza: 
“Cominciai a parlare leggendo il mio discorso, e fino a un certo punto continuai a leggere.

Quel giorno sentivo nell’uditorio una rispondenza straordinaria, e tutt’a un tratto mi venne in mente questa cosa.

Nel giugno precedente, dopo essermi unito a un tranquillo raduno di migliaia di persone nelle strade del centro di Detroit, nel Michigan, avevo tenuto un discorso nella Cobo Hall, in cui mi ero servito dell’espressione 'io ho un sogno'.

Humans have used up the natural resources the Earth can provide for the year and are now in ‘overdraft’, campaigners have warned.

The world has reached ‘earth overshoot day’, the point in the year that humans have exhausted supplies such land, trees and fish and outstripped the planet’s annual capacity to absorb waste products including carbon dioxide.

For the rest of the year, the world is in ecological debt, with fish stocks and forests being depleted, land degraded and carbon dioxide building up in the atmosphere, the Global Footprint Network said.

Earth overshoot day is calculated by comparing the demands made by humans on global resources - our ‘ecological footprint’ - with the planet’s ability to replenish resources and absorb waste.

This year, in less than nine months, we have used as much of nature as the Earth can regenerate in a year. Earth overshoot day has fallen a couple of days earlier than it did last year.

The Global Footprint Network said that in 1961, humanity only used around two-thirds of the available natural resources on Earth, but by the 1970’s increased carbon emissions and consumption began to outstrip what the planet could provide.

Humans now need the equivalent of 1.5 planets to sustain us, and by mid-century it will have risen to two planets, the campaigners said.

Four-fifths of the world’s population live in countries that use more than their own natural systems can provide.

In queste ore l’Egitto tiene il mondo con il fiato sospeso. Ci giungono ultime notizie dai nostri amici che si trovano immersi nella difficile situazione che si è venuta a creare.

«Vogliamo assicurarvi che tutti i membri del Movimento in Egitto stanno bene», così ci scrivono dall’Egitto.

«Il  14 agosto – continuano – è stata una giornata molto dolorosa per il Paese e, specialmente, per i cristiani. Come da tempo ci si aspettava, il Governo ha deciso di sgomberare le piazze occupate e purtroppo la reazione è stata sorprendentemente violenta, non solo contro l’esercito ma anche contro i cristiani. In tutto il Paese sono state bruciate le chiese più antiche e significative, i conventi, le scuole tenute da religiosi e religiose. Subito i musulmani moderati si sono schierati contro questi attacchi e molti si sono offerti di proteggere loro stessi le chiese. Ma tanti cristiani, grati, hanno risposto di non mettere in pericolo la loro vita perché i muri si possono ricostruire, passata la violenza, insieme.

“Good Morning.

I can see that you understand Italian.

I greet you. This visit gives me pleasure. I hope this journey for you will be very fruitful, because to meet other people, other cultures, is always good for us, it helps us grow. Why? Because if we are isolated in ourselves we only have what we have, we cannot grow culturally; instead, if we go in search of other people, other cultures, other ways of thinking, other religious, we come out of ourselves and begin that beautiful adventure that is called “dialogue”.

Dialogue is very important for one’s maturity, because in relation with other people, relations with other culture, also in healthy relations with other religions, one grows; grows, matures.

Of course, there is a danger: if in dialogue one closes himself or herself and gets angry, or fights; there is a danger of fighting. This is not good because we dialogue to meet one another and not to fight.

SOCIAL DAY A OTTMARING, GERMANIA

Un anno dopo il Genfest in Budapest con il titolo: "Let's Bridge" - costruiamo rapporti veri e autentici con ogni persona che incontriamo. Ecco quanto ci scrivano da Ottmaring, Germania

"Tornando dal Genfest ci siamo trovati con i giovani ed abbiamo chiesto a loro, quale sono passi da prendere ora. Una di loro raccontava la sua esperienza del Genfest: che è stata molto toccata dal fatto, che in tanti paesi si fa diversi progetti per i bisognosi; paesi dove i giovani stessi non hanno tante cose materiali. E si chiedeva: come mai, noi in Germania, che siamo benestanti, non facciamo niente in questa direzione? Da questo dolore e desiderio dei giovani è nato da noi il progetto del social day. È aperto per tutti i giovani da 16 anni in poi.

Da Dicembre 2012 in poi andiamo ogni seconda domenica del mese in una casa per rifugiati per trascorrere un pomeriggio con i bambini che abitano lì.

In tutti questi mesi ne hanno partecipato, da parte nostra, 20 giovani. Non vengono sempre tutti. C’è un piccolo gruppo di 5/6 che ci sono sempre. Poi si aggiunge l’uno o l’altro. Normalmente siamo più o meno 10 persone. È un bel modo per invitare giovani che vogliono conoscerci o impegnarsi per altri.
