Launch of United World Week 2014

" Welcome to the official launch of the United World Week 2014!": more than twenty minutes live streaming from Nairobi on May 1st connected the whole world to "Sharing with Africa", to start together the UWW (if you missed it: live.focolare.org/y4uw). Many experiences, the presentation of the first Atlas of Fraternity (collection of the first outcomes of the United World Project: http://www.unitedworldproject.org/it/dossier-uwp-it.html) and the message of Maria Voce, president of the Focolare Movement, who thanked us for " the stubborn courage with which young people commit to purse the goal of a united world, immersed in the complex history of the contemporary world ."
After the  link-up, the exciting concert of the Burundian group "Gen Sorriso" (https://www.facebook.com/gen.sorriso) concluded the day  in the best way!

We know  that as well as Nairobi, in many other countries Youth for a United World gathered to start together the UWW : in Italy, for example, 1000 people spent in Loppiano (Florence) a day of interactive groups and presentation of their activities all over the country (https://www.facebook.com/primomaggioloppiano?fref=ts). In Portugal, in Lisbon, the " Expo da Fraternidade", music and a flash mob involved 1200 people. Also in Mexico, in Argentina, in India and in many other countries the day was full of various activities of social and cultural background.

Lancio della Settimana Mondo Unito 2014

                                                               

“Benvenuti al lancio ufficiale della Settimana Mondo Unito 2014!”: più di venti minuti di live streaming da Nairobi, il primo maggio, hanno collegato il mondo intero a “Sharing with Africa” per iniziare insieme la SMU (per chi se lo fosse perso: live.focolare.org/y4uw). Esperienze, la presentazione del  primo Atlante della Fraternità (raccolta dei primi frutti dello United World Project: http://www.unitedworldproject.org/it/dossier-uwp-it.html) e il messaggio di Maria Voce, presidente del Movimento dei focolari, che tra le altre cose ci ha ringraziati per “il caparbio coraggio con cui i giovani si impegnano nell’inseguire l’obiettivo del mondo unito, immersi nelle vicende complesse del mondo contemporaneo”.

Dopo il collegamento, la carica di energia del concerto del gruppo burundese “Gen Sorriso” (https://www.facebook.com/gen.sorriso) ci ha fatto concludere nel migliore dei modi questo primo maggio!

Sappiamo però che non solo a Nairobi i Giovani per un mondo unito si sono radunati per iniziare insieme la SMU: in Italia, per esempio, erano in 1000 a Loppiano (Firenze) per una giornata di gruppi interattivi e presentazione delle attività che li coinvolgono in tutto il paese (https://www.facebook.com/primomaggioloppiano?fref=ts). In Portogallo, a Lisbona, l’”Expo da fraternidade”, musica e un flashmob hanno coinvolto 1200 persone. E ancora in Messico, in Argentina, in India e in tante altre parti la giornata è stata ricca di attività di vario tipo, a sfondo sociale e culturale.

Dopo che abbiamo seguito il Collegamento oggi (Sharing with Africa), ci è venuto spontaneo scrivervi i nostri impressioni:

• Ho sentito molto forte la voglia di conoscere di più la cultura africana, perché come sapete noi stiamo vivendo in uno stato di guerra con tanti migrazione, e nonostante tutto questo sento un desiderio più forte di costruire ponti di fratellanza con paesi che vivano nella sofferenza o nella guerra come noi, facendo di più attività che contribuiscano per realizzare il mondo unito. • Voglio ringraziarvi per questi momenti che ci fanno vivere insieme attraverso questo collegamento che è stato molto impressionante. Tutta l’unità nel vivere questa avventura divina. (Nadine)

Preparing for May 1^st event

There is an air of celebration in Nairobi, preparations for May 1^st event are in full swing! Yesterday we spent the whole day preparing the Mariapolis Piero to receive about three hundred young people coming today: someone cleaned, someone cooked, someone mowed, someone prepared the reception. In the garden you could hear the choir practicing songs, in the main hall you could spy on the choreography group preparing dances...

We know that in many other parts of the world, such as in Italy, Portugal, India, Madagascar, Mexico, Argentina, you are going to do concerts, workshops and many other events today: let us know how it goes!

Preparativi per il primo maggio

C'è aria di festa a Nairobi, fervono i preparativi per il primo maggio! Tutta la giornata ieri è stata dedicata a preparare la Mariapoli Piero per accogliere i circa trecento giovani in arrivo oggi: c'era chi puliva, chi cucinava, chi tagliava l'erba, chi preparava la reception. In giardino si sentivano le canzoni che il coro stava provando, passando in sala si poteva spiare il gruppo della coreografia che preparava le danze...

Sappiamo che anche in molti altri punti del mondo, ad esempio in Italia, in Portogallo, in India, in Madagascar, in Messico, in Argentina oggi farete concerti, workshop, manifestazioni e quant’altro: fateci sapere come andrà!

Sharing with Africa: day 3

Planting the tree of fraternity

We arrived in Nairobi only three days ago, but since then so much happened! During the "United world expo", on Monday evening, every country introduced itself through dances, traditions and typical products. Then yesterday, the last day of the school of fraternity for the Youth for a United World took us more and more into the spirit of Ubuntu.

During the foundation ceremony of Mariapolis Piero (Nairobi) on 19th may 1992, Chiara Lubich (founder of the Focolari Movement) said that like the African trees have lots of branches to host lots of birds, so lots of people from many different countries would have come to Mariapolis, to learn how to build a united world. We are part of that people, too, and to leave a concrete sign of these days we let us inspire just by the tree: in the garden we planted a mugumo tree, sacred in Kikuyu tribe. This tree reminds us those already planted in Budapest and in Jerusalem and is symbol of our way to the next Genfest.

At the end of the day, sharing our impressions about the days gone by, we all agreed on our joy for this bridge built with the African cultures.

The school for the Youth for a United World finished yesterday, but "Sharing with Africa" continues with many activities until next Saturday. We go on trying to live the Ubuntu. And how about you? Are you one of us?

Mettiamo radici per la fraternità

Sono passati già tre giorni dal nostro arrivo a Nairobi e tante cose sono successe nel frattempo! Dopo l'expo mondo di lunedì sera, in cui ogni paese si è presentato tramite danze, tradizioni e prodotti tipici, l'ultima giornata della scuola di fraternità per i "giovani per un mondo unito"' ci ha portati ancora di più nello spirito del'Ubuntu.

Durante la cerimonia di fondazione della Mariapoli Piero (Nairobi), il 19 maggio 1992, Chiara Lubich, fondatrice del Movimento dei focolari, aveva detto che, come gli alberi africani coi loro molti rami possono ospitare tanti uccelli, così qui alla Mariapoli sarebbero state ospitate persone d'ogni dove, per imparare a costruire un mondo unito. Tra quelle tante persone ci siamo anche noi, che per lasciare un segno concreto dei nostri giorni qui ci siamo rifatti proprio alla figura dell'albero, piantando in giardino un "mugumo tree", l'albero sacro della tribù Kikuyu. Un albero che inevitabilmente ci ricorda quelli già piantati a Budapest e a Gerusalemme, e che ormai è diventato un simbolo del nostro percorso verso il prossimo Genfest.

A fine giornata, scambiandoci le nostre impressioni sui giorni passati, eravamo tutti concordi nel dirci felici di questo ponte costruito con le culture africane!

La scuola dei giovani per un mondo unito è finita ieri, ma "Sharing with Africa" continua ancora fino a sabato, con tante attività. Noi continuiamo nel nostro impegno a vivere l'Ubuntu: e tu sei dei nostri?

Sharing with Africa: day 2

I am because we are

A story tells us of an anthropologist who wanted to study African cultures, therefore proposing a game to some children. He put a basket with candies next to a tree and told them that the first one to reach the tree would be allowed to take all the candies. At his signal, the children, instead of each one running on his own, held each other’s hand, and arriving together at the tree, shared the candies. When the anthropologist asked for an explanation, they replied, “Ubuntu! How could one of us be happy if the others are not?”

“Ubuntu” is an African philosophy that can be summarized as “A person is a person through persons.” I am realized only through the other because no single person can exist by himself, but the self is the product of the community and no one exists outside of this entity. In traditional Africa, for example, questions such as “Who discovered Mount Kenya?” or “ Who invented Ubuntu?” do not exist, because nothing is done individually. No one can take the credit for himself, because everyone, in some manner, gives a contribution.

These days in Nairobi, through the experiences we shared, also show how everyone’s contribution is important in building a united world, such as the young people in the Philippines assisting people after the typhoon, those in Burundi making bricks to build houses, those in Argentina helping to clean streets after vandalisms during a police strike, those in Brazil visiting homeless people on Christmas eve, and those in Tanzania donating blood. Through the internet today, we were also able to connect with Algeria, which took us into the North African reality.

“Ubuntu” is what inspired “Sharing with Africa,” and also what we are trying to live during these days, conscious that each one’s happiness strictly depends on the others´. How about you? Will you also try with us?

Io sono perché noi siamo 

Una storia racconta che un antropologo che voleva studiare la cultura africana un giorno propose un gioco ad un gruppo di bambini: mise un cestino di caramelle ai piedi di un albero e disse loro che chi fosse arrivato per primo poteva prenderle tutte. Al suo segnale i bambini, anziché correre ognuno per conto suo, si presero per mano e, raggiunto l’albero, condivisero le caramelle. Allo stupore dell’antropologo, i bambini risposero: “Ubuntu! Come potrebbe uno di noi essere contento, se gli altri non lo sono?”.

Ubuntu è una filosofia africana che si può riassumere come “una persona è persona tramite le altre persone”,è credere in una condivisione universale, che connette tutta l’umanitè. Io posso realizzarmi solo tramite l’altro, il singolo non esiste da solo, ma lascia spazio alla comunità. Nell’Africa tradizionale, per esempio, non ci si fa domande tipo “Chi ha scoperto il Monte Kenya? Chi ha inventato Ubuntu?”, perchè nulla è fatto singolarmente, non c’è il merito di uno solo, ma tutti, in qualche modo, contribuiscono.

Anche questi giorni a Nairobi ci mostrano, tramite le esperienze raccontate, come per costruire il mondo unito serva il contributo di tutti: così nelle Filippine si soccorre la gente colpita dal tifone, in Burundi si fabbricano mattoni per costruire case, in Argentina si aiuta a pulire le strade dopo gli atti vandalici da parte della popolazione durante lo sciopero della polizia, in Brasile la sera di Natale si va a trovare i senza tetto, in Tanzania si fa una campagna di donazione del sangue. Via internet oggi ci siamo collegati anche con l’Algeria, che ci ha portato la realtà dell’Africa del nord.

Ubuntu è lo spirito che ha dato inizio a “Sharing with Africa” e che tutti ci stiamo impegnando a vivere in questi giorni, consapevoli che la felicità di ciascuno passa attraverso quella degli altri attorno a lui. E tu, ti impegni con noi?

Sharing with Africa: day 1

Nairobi, here we are! After we left Budapest with the slogan “Let’s bridge,” we have been building bridges all over the world. We started from East Europe in 2012, then Holy Land in 2013 and now Africa, for “Sharing with Africa.”

 “Sharing:” one hundred youth from different countries (Austria, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, India, Jordan, Holy Land, Philippines, Rwanda, Tanzania, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, South Africa, Cameroon, Madagascar, Kenya, Uganda, Burkina Faso, Congo, Malawi, Angola) came to Kenya  to share 10 days together, discovering traditions, cultural backgrounds, and values of this beautiful continent.

“With Africa:” Africa welcomed us with all its challenges and difficulties, but also its beauty, giving  us the chance to enjoy its hospitality. Nobody is a stranger anymore and everyone feels  at home.

Africa is the continent where human history started 200,000 years ago; we come from a group of homo sapiens who migrated all over the world and gave birth to every culture.

From this common origin we find our roots that make us all brothers and sisters.

Africa today become our bridge connecting Nairobi, not only to the 29 countries here represented  but many others linked with us throughout the network ( today we were with Nigeria, Portugal, Cameroon, Tanzania, Congo, Brazil), letting us know their programs for the United world Week, so that we can live it together.

This morning someone said, “In today’s globalized world, building bridges  is the answer  and the most important thing to fill the gaps between cultures. Even when the bridge may seem as if it is about to crumble, go ahead and you will find happiness”.

Sharing with Africa: Giorno 1. 

Nairobi, eccoci! A Budapest ci siamo lasciati al grido di “Let’s bridge” e, tra i tanti ponti che abbiamo costruito da quel momento, il nostro viaggio verso il prossimo Genfest ci ha portati dall’Est Europa nel 2012 e dal Medio Oriente nel 2013 all’Africa, quest’anno, per “Sharing with Africa”.

“Sharing”, condividere: cento giovani di vari paesi del mondo (Austria, Italy, Romania, Lituania, Brasile, Argentina, Messico, India, Giordania, Terra Santa, Filippine, Rwanda,Tanzania, Nigeria, Costa d’Avorio, Sud Africa, Cameroun, Madagascar, Kenya, Uganda, Burkina Faso, Congo, Malawi, Angola) sono arrivati in Kenya per condividere dieci giorni di vita insieme, scoprendo tradizioni, cultura e valori del continente che ci ospita.

“With Africa”: è l’Africa ad accoglierci a braccia aperte, con tutte le sue sfide e difficoltà ma anche bellezze, dando ad ognuno l’opportunità di sperimentare il suo grande spirito di ospitalità, cosicché nessuno è più straniero, ma tutti ci sentiamo, in qualche modo, a casa.

L’Africa è il continente da cui è iniziata la storia dell’umanità, la nostra storia, 200.000 anni fa: discendiamo tutti da un primo gruppo di homo sapiens che poi, con le migrazioni in vari punti del mondo, ha dato vita alle diverse culture.

In questa origine comune ritroviamo le nostre radici, che ci fanno sentire tutti fratelli e sorelle. E proprio l’Africa oggi diventa una tappa del nostro ponte, che passa da Nairobi ma non si ferma: non solo 29 paesi sono presenti qui in questi giorni, ma tanti altri sono con noi tramite collegamenti internet (oggi con Nigeria, Portogallo, Cameroun, Tanzania, Congo, Brasile), facendoci sentire partecipi dei vari preparativi per la Settimana Mondo Unito.

“In questo mondo globalizzato” diceva qualcuno stamattina, “i ponti per riempire le possibili distanze tra una cultura e l’altra sono la cosa più importante; anche quando potrà sembrarvi che il ponte non vi dia stabilità, andata comunque avanti e troverete la felicità”.

Noi abbiamo accettato volentieri la sfida di costruire ponti tra di noi, sempre più numerosi, sempre più stabili. E tu, ti unisci a noi?

Yesterday we started our Y4UW school which is focused on Sharing with Africa. We were also linked up with Nigeria, Portugal, Madagascar, Burkina Faso, Fontem (Cameroun), Ivory Coast, Congo and Brazil. It was a very joyful moment to feel so united even if we are so far away!

Today, we will in contact with Algeria and South Africa.

UNDERSTANDING SHARING WITH AFRICA

 Greetings from the Mariapolis Piero (Nairobi, Kenya) where we are celebrating the 2014 United World Week. 200 Youth for a United World have come together from all over Africa and beyond for this week where we are marking a significant new step in the "Sharing with Africa" project.

In some ways this project goes back to the 1960s Operation Africa, which supported the people of Fontem (Cameroun).^[1] This project was relaunched at the last Genfest, and draws inspiration from the desire expressed at a Panafrican meeting of young people in 2011 that we should now concentrate on building relationships of reciprocity between the Africa and the rest of the world, where Africans participate not just as receivers, but also as givers. In particular, they wished to share those cultural values that have sometimes been lost in other parts of the world, the moral and cultural wealth which is not only a heritage for the African future generations but for all the youth spread all over the world. This unifying vision of the world, typical of African cultures is a gift that the African Continent can give to the rest of the world in order to understand the value of being human.

Sharing with Africa: Arrivo e Collegamento 1° maggio

Saluti specialissimi dalla Mariapoli Piero, Nairobi, Kenya!!!

Ieri sera sono arrivati i Giovani per un Mondo Unito (GMU) che provengono da paesi lontani, non solo dal Continente Africano ma anche da più lontano: dalle Filippine, dal Brasile, dall’India, dall’Europa,... Oggi aspettiamo l’arrivo dei GMU dal Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania e Kenya. Sarà una grandissima festa stasera con tamburi, danze e “Karibuni!!” (Benvenuti!!)

Nel frattempo, faremo una visita al Museo Antropologico e poi al Masai Market di Nairobi.

GREETINGS FROM MARIAPOLIS PIERO, NAIROBI - KENYA!!

A group of us have arrived yesterday evening in this wonderful place. Slowly slowly we are gathering together from around 30 different countries for an intercultural experience.

Africa (12): Kenya, Burundi, Ruanda, Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania, Madagascar, Cameroun, Zambia, Angola, Congo, Costa d’Avorio

Europe (6): Italy, Austria, Ireland, Romania, Lituania, Malta

Americas (6): Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Colombia

Middle East (2): Jordan, Holy Land

Asia (2): India, Philippines

This year's UNITED WORLD WEEK has brought us to focus on this incredible experience in the hearth of the AFRICAN CONTINENT. It is an intercultural experience is based on “The UBUNTU vision of the human person”: “I am what I am because we all are” and this is all an integral part of the UNITED WORLD PROJECT.

Ubuntu philosophy presents a unifying vision of the world which is expressed in the Zulu proverb: “Ununtu Ngumuntu Ngabantu” (A person is a person because of other people). This life concept is found at the basis of all African society, and it implies respect, sharing, trust, altruism and cooperation. It is a “communional” idea of the human person that identifies a person as someone in relation to his or her relations with others. A person with an Ubuntu ethic is open, available to others, supportive, aware of belonging to a greater whole. Speaking in Ubuntu terms involves a stronger sense of unity in social relations, in order to be available and willing to meet differences in the humanity of the other, as one’s own humanity is enriched: “I am what I am because we all are.”

Madagascar: Musical Band all set for 1st May

Dear Youth for a United World.

We are the Youth for a United World (Y4UW) from Madagascar. Our country is an island located in the Indian Ocean basin. Our country’s population is 20 million. According to recent statistics, more than 40% of the Malagasy are under 30 years. This is substantially a very young population.

Here too, the Spirituality of Unity (Focolare Movement) arrived several years ago. We are part of this Movement and we boys and girls are strongly committed girls to building a united world in the different cities of our country. We are trying to put into practice the “Let’s Bridge” motto, launched to many young people spread all over the world in 2012 and we want “Be the Bridge” on a personal level. It is a fascinating experience because we feel that the whole world is essentially “waiting to welcome” our message of peace and brotherhood. So many young people want to embrace this ideal along with us!

SETTIMANA MONDO UNITO 2014

L’edizione 2014 della Settimana Mondo Unito (SMU) si terrà dal 1° all’11 maggio.

Sotto il titolo “Bridging cultures”, quest’anno le varie attività e azioni organizzate dai Giovani per un Mondo Unito (GMU) si concentreranno sulla reciprocità nell’amore concreto, sul privilegiare i rapporti.

Focus particolare sull’Africa, un continente pieno di colori, culture e sfide, in una reciproca condivisione e scambio di ricchezze con le diverse culture africane.

Il 1° maggio alle ore 13 italiane si terrà in collegamento mondiale via streaming l’apertura della SMU 2014.

Vi faremo avere le coordinate per la diretta del 1° maggio.

Evento centrale della SMU sarà “Sharing with Africa”, un cantiere di reciprocità che si terrà dal 27 aprile al 4 maggio a Nairobi, Kenya alla Mariapoli Piero.

Parteciperanno più di un centinaio di giovani: la metà delle zone africane e l’altra metà di vari Paesi del mondo.

In quest’occasione si lancerà inoltre l’Atlante della fraternità, primo documento dello United World Project nato dalla raccolta di più di 800 frammenti di fraternità.

Also Today I have Loved

I have the impression that time is passing by very quickly and in the depth I feel of my heart I can resign myself to this as long as it is all love. As long as, at the eve of each day, I can say to myself: “Also today I have loved.”

On this Easter that reminds us of how Jesus, after dying, was resurrected, and how we too will one day rise up with our bodies, I would like that all of you would live so that each evening you can say: Also today I have loved.

We do not know how long our life will last, however, how bitter it would be to draw closer to death with only a few days lived in love. How regretful! We would remorsefully say: “I could have loved but I didn’t do it.”

UNITED WORLD WEEK 2014

The 2014 edition of the United World Week (UWW) will be held from 1^st to 11^th May.

The title of this year’s UWW is “Bridging cultures” and the wide variety of activities and actions carried out by the Youth for a United World (Y4UW) will focus on reciprocal concrete love and underlining the priority of relationships.

A particular focus will be given to Africa, a continent which is full of colours, cultures and challenges, through mutual sharing and an intercultural exchange with the different African cultures.

On 1^st May at 1:00 pm (Italian time) there will be a worldwide linkup (via streaming) marking the opening of UWW 2014. Shortly, we will send you the internet link to the 1^st May event.

The central event of the United World Week will be “Sharing with Africa”, a work-site of reciprocity which will be held from 27^th April to 4^th May at the Mariapolis Piero, Nairobi, Kenya.

More than one hundred young people are expected to participate: 50 from the African Continent and 50 from various parts of the world.

Attached, please find the programme of this work-site on fraternity.

On this occasion we will also launch the “Atlas of Fraternity”, the first United World Project document based on the collection of more than 800 fragments of fraternity.

It will be available online from 1^st May on www.unitedworldproject.org and in hard copy from 1^st September, 2014.

Kasadya 2014: DULA TA BAi

Greetings Y4UW!

It has been one heck of a year—intense, sometimes cruel, often times demanding yet at the end of the day, EXTREMELY rewarding. From clearing rubble brought about by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Bohol, to a ceaseless relief effort from being almost literally swept off the earth by typhoon Yolanda, to preparing the much anticipated tour by GenRosso in February of this year — a few questions would come to mind like “is there any room to breathe?” or more consequently — “what is next?”

Summer in the Philippines is well on its way and we would not want to miss this opportunity to make the most out of it (of course)! We, the young people of Dumaguete city are inviting every young person who want to contribute in building a united world and spend a few days of their summer(and their saved up energy from school or work) together with us in our humbling town as we host Kasadya 2014: DULA TA BAi— to ‘reinforce old bridges and build new ones,’ to encourage dialogue among youth of diverse communities on current issues and events in a fun, vibrant and conducive environment, and to rejuvenate mental, physical and spiritual health through different activities, so as to ‘continue loving our way to achieve universal brotherhood.’

Yogyakarta: Bazaar per le vittime del super tifone Haiyan

Ciao a tutti!!

Il 3 e 4 marzo 2014 abbiamo fatto un piccolo Bazaar per la vittime del tifone Haiyan in Filippine. Eravamo giovani e adulti insieme a vendere qualsiasi genere di roba in una parrocchia a Klepu che dista 20 km dalla città di Yogyakarta.

Nei giorni precedenti, abbiamo fatto una grande raccolta di indumenti, cibo e diverso materiale impegnandoci in prima persona ma anche coinvolgendo i nostri amici che hanno aderito con immediatezza. Al “centro di raccolta” c’era un incredibile via e vai di persone. Una volta completata la raccolta, abbiamo selezionato e ordinato il materiale, e dopo abbiamo messo i prezzi, ecc... C'erano tanto entusiasmo e gioia.

Nel frattempo sono successi 2 disastri: l’eruzione dei vulcani Sinabung e Kelud. Ad alcuni è venuta la domanda se indirizzare il ricavato per le Filippine o per la nostra gente?

Abbiamo deciso di andare avanti con l’aiuto per le Filippine. Questa decisione ci ha dato una grandissima gioia perché sentiamo fortemente che siamo una grande famiglia.

La vendita al Bazaar è andata molto bene. Eravamo una ventina distribuiti in diverse postazioni per essere al servizio della gente.  C’era chi orientava le persone, chi alla cassa, chi distribuiva la merenda, chi  ad attendere ai “clienti” man mano che venivano a provare, a curiosare, ... e a comprare! La gioia di tutti è che abbiamo raccolto una bella somma. Ma la felicità non era soltanto per questo.

International Happiness Day

Excerpts from an interview by the regional United Nations Information Centre (UNRIC) with Prof Luigino Bruni, coordinator of the Economy of Communion Project

On July 12, 2012, the 66^th Session of the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed March 20^th as International Happiness Day. UNRIC Italy has decided to bring this to the public’s attention with the help of Professor Luigino Bruni, Professor of Political Economy at the LUMSA University of Rome, and global coordinator of the Economy of Communion project which was launched by Chiara Lubich in Brazil (1991). The project currently includes over 1000 businesses worldwide. The Economy of Communion proposes that entrepreneurs share business profits with development projects in different parts of the world, which is based on a model of reciprocity and gift.

Professor Bruni, you were one of the first to re-launch an Italian rendition of happiness that is different from the one that comes from the United States. Can you explain more about what lies beneath this vision of happiness?

“The most distant origins of the notion of happiness are found in the ancient Greek and Roman culture, especially in Aristotle who had linked happiness to the virtues and had distinguished it from pleasure. It was a concept which today we would have to translate as “human blossoming” because it goes back to the idea that happiness is a general state of existence. The Greeks had understood that only the virtuous man could become happy by cultivating the virtues, even in the face of bad luck. This is where our responsibility begins, because it is possible to say that the main protagonist of my happiness (and unhappiness) is me, and not the external events which certainly are a burden on my wellbeing, but never decisive in determining my happiness.”

Nettuno: Azione Spiaggia Pulita

Salve!!!

Siamo  i “Giovani per un mondo unito”, espressione giovanile del Movimento dei Focolari. Domenica 13 aprile organizzeremo un azione ecologica per ripulire un tratto di spiaggia del nostro amato litorale.

Il nostro intento è  di  rendere prezioso il nostro territorio, curandolo, rispettandolo. Ogni piccolo gesto, se realizzato insieme può produrre un cambiamento. Cambiamento possibile con gesti concreti, d’esempio per una futura riproduzione nel quotidiano.

L’azione sarà organizzata con la collaborazione della comunità locale del Movimento dei Focolari e di Eco One ( rete internazionale di operatori nel campo ambientale e naturalistico) e alcune classi delle scuole di Anzio, Nettuno, Genzano di Roma che portano avanti, da tempo, progetti ecologici. La giornata è aperta a tutta la cittadinanza, studenti delle scuole medie e superiori e alle Associazioni giovanili del territorio. Il programma prevede un momento di accoglienza, la presentazione dei progetti ecologici in corso, la ripulitura della spiaggia e le conclusioni.

Una piccola presentazione di Nettuno

Nettuno è un comune della provincia di Roma nella regione Lazio di Italia centrale, 60 chilometri a sud di Roma. Una città turistica e centro agricolo sul Mar Tirreno, nel Mar Mediterraneo, ha una popolazione di circa 50.000.

Are you getting enough happiness?

Young people from Word of Life groups in Belfast, Dublin and from University College Dublin made their way to the ‘Centre for Unity’ in Welwyn Garden City, on the outskirts of London, for the annual Focolare Regenerate event.

The event, now in its sixth year, saw its numbers double from last year as around ninety young people from the Netherlands, Finland, Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland came together for the occasion.

All over Europe the event was followed online as talks were streamed live through the internet. In fact, at its peak, as many as twenty-eight laptops were linked to the event and joined in the discussion.

This year “Regenerate” took the theme of happiness as its focus point. Bishop Brendan Leahy from Limerick, the key speaker, led the group in questioning the difference between happiness and joy and between happiness and sorrow. The programme was interspersed with workshops, break-away group discussions as well as large feedback sessions in order to interrogate the subject most fully. The youth had the choice to attend lectures on happiness and psychology and happiness and economics by Angela Manning and Fabio Tufano respectively.

Diritti e rovesci dei nuovi cittadini

Il 12 aprile l'Associazione Arcobaleno festeggerà il 30° anniversario dalla sua fondazione.

Per questo importante traguardo ci sarà un  convegno intitolato "Diritti e rovesci dei nuovi cittadini" - 'ero straniero, sono milanese' il 12 aprile, alle ore 15:00 presso l' Auditorium don Bosco - via Melchiorre Gioia 48, Milano.

Questo convegno ha lo scopo di dare  voce ai migranti che conosciamo e alle loro storie;  di mettere in evidenza la realtà del volontariato come indispensabile risorsa della città.

We are the Youth for a United World from Portugal, and we would like to invite you to an event that will take place this year on May the 1st at Cidadela Arco-Íris (in Abrigada, Portugal).
On this day, we want to be true protagonists of brotherhood, by living the Golden Rule: "Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you". Moreover, we will have the opportunity to meet other young people who also want to put this rule into practice, and get to know th...eir projects and initiatives.

It will be a very dynamic program where, through music, choreographies, personal experiences, workshops, and forums, we will try to discover together how to achieve universal brotherhood. Are you up to the challenge?
