Today was our third day in the Youth for a United World (Y4UW) Animators' school. In the morning we initiated with a video of Chiara Lubich where she answers the youth’s questions in Genfest 1995.
Some of us shared how much sorrow exists in our daily life and how important it is to embrace it with joy and love in order to be able to move forward towards a united world. Moreover, we understood that “we should be in the world but not of the world”. These points were the ones that touched us most because they are related to our lives. For instance, the Iraqi Y4UW expressed their life in their country and the difficulties they face through a nice sketch. Some of the challenging difficulties for them are the distances they have to travel in order to meet. Furthermore, Iraq is divided into many societies; each one has its own different culture, language and believes. In spite of all that, they showed us the richness of their culture and how they react in a positive way to all the obstacles they face.
In the afternoon, the Algerian group briefly presented their country and how they live as Muslim Y4UW. We ended up in understanding in a deeper way, that even though we have different religions, we are trying to reach the same goal of unity.
Later on, the Lebanese showed us a video about the most important monuments of their country while listening to the typical Lebanese songs in the background. Then they shared with us some of their Y4UW activities, such as their monthly visit to the homeless children centre and their participation with a Muslim group for serving food to the poor people during Ramadan.
