Here we are at the breakfast table after an unforgettable day that started off early in the morning with Holy Mass. Immediately afterwards we went to visit the Baptism site of Jesus, right on the Jordan river. Though it was extremely hot, as we were 410 m below sea level, the joy of being together was really great. We were taking photos everywhere, just to keep a trace of this beautiful experience.
While being in this special place we recalled the Gospel passage when Jesus was baptized and there was the manifestation of the Holy Trinity. We had a special prayer, through which we remembered the youth programme in England, the whole Focolare Movement and in a special way: peace in the Middle East.
Later we moved to a nearby place called Mount Nebo. According to tradition, from this very place, Moses saw the “Promised Land” after leading the Jews out of Egypt and through the desert for 40 years. Even here we meditated on this part of the bible.
In the afternoon, we passed on to the presentation of Syria and Jordan. The background upon which the Y4UW activities in Syria were carried out was the extremely difficult political situation of these last six months. They shared with us how this situation led to a stronger focus on living our spirituality. Mutual love among the group was very evident.
Jordanians surprised us by the way they carry Y4UW activities among Christians and Muslims notwithstanding the difficulties in inviting youth who are socially secure and a little passive. We noticed that they also focus on educational activities giving a special attention to Iraqi refugees.
The most awaited moment was the “party”. The hall was literally bursting with joy! We started with the presentation of Genfest 2012! Then, each country presented a sketch, a song, a traditional dance… and there was one number that included all Middle East countries.
