While we were preparing for the Youth afternoon for October 1st, we heard about the devastating famine in Somalia. We talked about this situation in one of our preparatory meeting for the youth afternoon because we felt that we cannot remain idle without doing something for Somalia. But how, and what can we do?

As the unity among us grew more and more, we came to a conclusion of having a spaghetti dinner a month after the Youth afternoon. We announced it at the conclusion of the program on October 1st, and we all felt that the main preparation was to begin right away to live for unity. It is the gift that we can bring to Genfest! What better occasion there was than to work together to fundraise for Somalia? We planned to cook spaghetti, prepare salad and ice cream for dessert.
One of the youth was celebrating her birthday a week before the benefit dinner. She took this occasion to invite her family and her friends that she would have celebrated her birthday during this benefit dinner and she would have been happy if all of them could come. Around 80 people turned up for the dinner. We worked a lot, spending hours in the kitchen to prepare the meal, but it was fun – because we had the chance to get to know each other better. We also prepared a program with music and some information about Somalia. There was a beautiful atmosphere of reciprocal love during the dinner, and the evening was appreciated by everyone. We raised $973.00 that we sent to Somalia.
