Yogjakarta: Fundraising for Genfest 2012

Dark clouds didn’t stop us from riding out on our motorbikes into the countryside (20 km from the Yogyakarta city), to the secluded Marian shrine of Jatiningsih for Sunday mass, followed by fundraising activities for Genfest 2012. But selling t-shirts and singing Marian hymns to passers-by were all just an excuse to move out of our comfort zones and start living its message: Let's bridge!
We were of different nationalities and ethnic backgrounds. We sang in different languages. But the smiles, encouragement and support we got from those around us told us that they understood what we were there for, and wanted somehow to be a part of it. After enjoying an unexpected lunch-treat from people we barely even knew, we made our way back to the city. Finally arriving back at the focolare centre, we joined the rest of the community there in celebrating the last day of Christmas. The love we gave and were given that day was felt deeply, and the joy in the air was as indescribable. And outside, as though a divine blessing, the rain finally began to fall.
It was really an unforgettable experience! During that half day we managed to collect Rupiah 154.000 (=Euro 13) which is already a lot for our country people. We were delighted. We have planned other similar fundraising activities for the Genfest in other places and we will keep all of you unpdated.
