We “Youth for a United World” (Y4UW) in Warsaw took advantage of the Christmas season “to look around us” and search for those people who are suffering. We thought of dedicating our attention to the homeless persons who live in solitude.
Since it is customary here in Poland to give gifts to one another on St. Nicholas day (6th December), we thought of celebrating this feast in a different way. Instead of staying among ourselves and giving gifts to one another, we decided to prepare Christmas gifts for some homeless people. These gifts consisted of sweets, sandwiches and fruit. We went along together with our friends living in the student hostel in Warsaw. We split up in to groups of 3 to 4 persons and we distributed the 120 gifts that we had prepared. Our meeting with homeless people at train stations or simply on the road was a touching experience for each one of us and their smiles warmed our hearts.Later on, in the evening we all got together to share our joy of having loved these persons. It is really wonderful to see what a simple act of love can bring about!
