The erudite met the samba. The ludic, history, culture and the faith also were at the party. This is how we can describe the presentations at the Night Faith and Culture – Meetings between Brazilian Rhythms, last Tuesday at Espaço Tom Jobim.
Two hymns were played at the opening of the performance by the Brazilian Young Symphony Orchestra. The first was the Brazilian Anthem to start the night and then the Hymn of the WYD Rio2013.
The official melody of the event went along with the Hail Mary, by Charles Gounod and Johann Sebastian Bach, played with a cavaquinho (string instrument like a small guitar). After the prayer, came the opera “ O Guarany”, by Antonio Carlos Gomes. The show had then “The Prelude”, by Franz Liszt. The night got the voice of Marlui Miranda who sang the Our Father in Tupi, which was the most spoken language at Brazilian seacoast in the XVI century.
The juvenile choir of Brazilian Symphony Orchestra performed O Trenzinho do Caipira, by Heitor Villa-Lobos and Ferreira Gullar. The show went on with the Brazilian culture O Cio da Terra, Asa Branca and Garota de Ipanema.
The apice was when the Bateria of Unidos da Tijuca Samba School (percussion) showed up, singing Cidade Maravilhosa , with “Mestre-sala” and “ Porta-bandeira”. The closing was made by Olivia  Ferreira and Guilherme singing the Official WYD Rio2013 Hymn.
