An overnight torrential rain over a span of 10 hours has
caused deaths and widespread damage in Bujumbura, Burundi.
A message from Telesphore Niyonkuru:
“Many warm greetings from Bujumbura!
First of all, we wish to assure you that we are all fine.
On 11th February, we had a very heavy rain
fall that caused floods
and landslides in the capital Bujumbura. More
than 100 people lost their lives and the flow of water with mud gushing down
from the hills around the city has washed away around 4,000 homes. Bujumbura is on
a plain that lies between a range of hills and Lake Tanganyika
As you can imagine, many roads and crops have
also been destroyed.
As Youth for a United World (Y4UW), we are collecting
clothes for all those persons who took refuge in the Church and other places.
Please
keep us in your prayers.”
